Non-object pronouns in commands

Mensaje por Jonh » Julio 26, 2017, 10:37 am

Hi all,
I realize that object pronouns can be used with commands (eg dámelo -- give it to me). But, can non-object pronouns also be used with commands? For example, "escúchate" with the meaning of "listen up!" (and not "listen to yourself!"). Is this constructrion correct & common? What is the pronoun "te"? What's the rule for using pronouns like this?

In other words, what's the difference between the following (when expressing the imperative "listen up!"?
escucha
escúchate

I suspect the "te" simply adds emphasis, but I'd like to confirm that.

Thanks!
