Translate a sentence

Hello, I am trying to say the following sentence in Spanish: Tomorrow the newspapers would say that the mayor had been shot during the night. I translated it as: Manana los periodicos dirian que el alcalde habia disparado durante la noche. But my teacher marked it wrong. If someone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
