Mi hermana va a correos (Definite Article)

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could please, please help me as I'm really stuck and need to know the answer to this question for a grammar test:
I know that in most situations, you use the definite article after the following phrases:
Ir a
Venir de
Estar en
However, I've just seen in my book that you don't ALWAYS use the definite article after these phrases.
I was just wondering if anyone could please explain how you tell whether you need the definite article after these phrases please?
Thank you so much!
Also, if any replies could be posted in English, I'd be very grateful
Thank you!
