Leo "la Fiesta del Chivo" y encontré este dialogo: - Que hubiera pasado si aquella bomba estalla en la Maximo Gomez, a la hora del paseo del Chivo? -fantaseó Amadito. - Fuegos artificiales de trujillistas en el cielo -respondio Imbert. - Yo hubiera podido ser uno de los que volaban, si estaba de guardia -se rio el teniente. My question is why in the first sentence "estrallar" is conjugated in the present tense, when they are talking about the past. "What would have happened if that bomb exploded ... ." In the last sentence the verb after "si" is conjugated in imperfect tense, which makes more sense to me. Would appreciate if someone explained it to me. Thanks.
